Both the 3900 and 2900 platforms are designed with our patented 3-stage switching architecture, which includes switching on the individual blades, as well as the central switch connected through an orthogonal interconnect.
Each switching blade can individually switch connections or packet flows across any of the ports in that same blade. The system can be populated in-service with additional blades, either individually or in large groups, to scale as your requirements grow. Each blade can also switch any of the connections into the central switch fabric, which enables connectivity across any other blade in the system.
In addition, the central switch cards are fully redundant and hot-swappable. Connections can switch to alternate backplane paths in the event of one switch failure. This is a unique ONPATH capability and allows our technology to be used in production networks.
