OnPATH Debuts 10Gbps FCoE-Capable Physical Layer Switching

Marlton, NJ, April 29, 2008OnPATH Technologies, the leading provider of automated connectivity solutions that enable companies to virtualize their physical infrastructure layer, announced that it will be switching live 10Gb Ethernet traffic driven through a Fibre Channel test application using Intel® 10 Gigabit XF SR Server Adapters. The Marlton, NJ-based high-tech firm is demonstrating the technology at the Interop event (booth #485) in Las Vegas, April 29-May 1.

"FCoE represents a convergence of the strongest aspects of storage and network protocols that will result in more cost-effective and seamless data center networks," said Larry Cantwell, OnPATH Technologies CTO. "OnPATH's technological advancement demonstrates our commitment to simplify and automate physical layer (layer 1) connectivity in order to enable companies to achieve flatter, more scalable and secure data centers."

OnPATH Technologies is participating in the Intel Passport Program at Interop to demonstrate new technologies and has invited prospective customers to see OnPATH's Universal Connectivity System 2900 in action. The UCS 2900 provides protocol-agnostic layer 1 connectivity for common data center and network protocols such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).

"As companies continue to adopt virtual data center practices to do more with lessboth for consolidation and to scale for growth mission critical applicationsefficient and optimal use of IT resources (server, storage and networking) becomes more paramount to maximize IT spending," said Greg Schulz, founder and senior analyst, The StorageIO Group, an IT industry analyst firm. "I/O virtualization enables traditional SAN-based open systems Fibre Channel, and in theory mainframe FICON, to co-exist on an common 10GbE supporting FCoE converged network as peers along with IP-based iSCSI and NAS to support dynamic resource allocation and data center changes without performance compromise levering existing skill sets and operating practices."

By virtualizing the infrastructure layer, including supporting converged LAN and SAN I/O connectivity, OnPATH helps customers improve the availability, manageability and performance of their IT environments to reduce complexity, control costs, improve remote site control, separate secure networks, increase system uptime, and optimize operational efficiencies.
